North Wales Police have confirmed the discovery of a body formally identified as 74-year-old Gregor, who was reported missing last week in Eryri (Snowdonia). The body was found on Carnedd Y Filiast on Monday, June 29, shortly before 4pm, following a major four-day search operation involving land and air resources.
Search operation details
Police launched an extensive search after Gregor was reported missing, with his vehicle discovered parked at Snowdonia Mountain Hostel near Bethesda. Authorities believed he had set out on a hiking trip in the Carnedd Y Filiast area. The search involved police, mountain rescue teams, and other agencies over four days.
In a statement issued Tuesday, North Wales Police Gwynedd North said: "The body of a man has sadly been discovered on Carnedd Y Filiast. The man has now been formally identified as 74-year-old Gregor who we circulated as missing last week. Extensive searches by police, mountain rescue teams and other agencies were undertaken over four days, which sadly resulted in a body being discovered shortly before 4pm yesterday, 29 June."
No suspicious circumstances
Police have stated there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and the coroner has been informed. Chief Inspector Stephen Pawson offered condolences: "My deepest condolences remain with Gregor's family at this incredibly difficult time. Thank you to partner agencies, volunteers and members of the public who assisted in our searches over the weekend and today."
There had been growing concerns for Gregor's welfare after his vehicle was left at the hostel. The area, known for its challenging terrain, is popular with hikers.
