Police and underwater search teams have recovered the body of a missing man from Llyn Geirionydd in the Eryri National Park. The search was launched after the alarm was raised on Sunday evening, July 19, at approximately 7.10pm.
Search operation
Emergency services attended the lake, with a helicopter seen circling the area in recent days and dive teams involved in the search. North Wales Police said there would be an "increased emergency service presence" while the search was ongoing.
On Wednesday, the force confirmed that a body had been recovered by search teams. Formal identification is yet to take place, but the missing man's family has been informed. A file has been prepared for the coroner.
Police statement
A police spokesman said: "Officers and colleagues from the Underwater Search Team searching in the Llyn Geirionydd area have sadly recovered the body of a man. Whilst formal identification is yet to take place, the missing man's family have been informed, as has the Coroner. Our thoughts remain with the man's family at this difficult time."
Earlier this month, the body of a 21-year-old man was recovered from the same lake, a popular destination for watersports enthusiasts. Llyn Geirionydd draws kayakers and is the only lake within Eryri National Park where speedboats are permitted.
