A man's body has been discovered in Roker Park, Sunderland, prompting a police cordon. Emergency services were called to the popular park at around 7:30am on Monday following a report of concern for welfare.
Northumbria Police confirmed that the body of a man was found at the scene. A spokesperson said: "At 7.35am today (Monday), we received a report of concern for the welfare of a person in the Roker Park area of Sunderland. Emergency services attended the scene where the body of a man was sadly found."
The North East Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance crew and a clinical team leader to the incident. A large section of the park was taped off, though some areas remain open to the public.
Police have stated that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death. His next of kin have been informed, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
