A BMW crashed into a KFC restaurant at a Bangchak petrol station in Bangkok on 25 April, leaving at least 12 people injured. The incident occurred at around 7.50pm on Sukhumvit 62, with the bronze-grey sedan smashing through the glass front of the outlet.
The driver, a 36-year-old Chinese national surnamed Chen, had entered the petrol station to refuel and was waiting in a queue before the car suddenly accelerated. It moved past other vehicles, apparently attempting to reach a vacant pump or make a U-turn, before losing control and crashing into the restaurant. A cream-coloured Toyota Camry waiting nearby was damaged on its left rear side.
The injured included customers, delivery riders, restaurant staff, and the BMW driver. All were taken to nearby hospitals, with none reported to be in a serious condition. Inside the KFC, glass panels were shattered and the service counter area, tables, and chairs were badly damaged.
Eyewitnesses described panic as people seated inside and those near the counter were hit. A KFC employee said the store manager had called staff, and they initially believed it was only a routine crash outside. Police are questioning the driver and witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage to determine the exact cause.
