Bexleyheath Shooting: Two Hospitalised, One Arrested After Early Hours Incident
Bexleyheath shooting: Two men in hospital, one arrested

Police have launched an urgent investigation after a shooting in a busy south-east London town centre left two men requiring hospital treatment in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency Response on Broadway

The Metropolitan Police were called to Broadway in Bexleyheath at approximately 2:15am on Sunday, 4 January, following reports of a firearm being discharged. Officers arrived swiftly at the scene alongside colleagues from the London Ambulance Service (LAS).

Paramedics treated a 30-year-old man for a gunshot wound before transporting him to a major trauma centre. The police have stated they are awaiting an update on his current medical condition.

Arrest at the Scene

During the response, officers arrested a 35-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. This individual had also sustained injuries and was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment under police guard.

The emergency operation was significant, with the London Air Ambulance's trauma team also dispatched to the location by car to assist the two patients.

Major Disruption in Town Centre

The incident has caused substantial disruption in the heart of Bexleyheath. Broadway, a main road and busy shopping thoroughfare, remains cordoned off by police as forensic examinations continue.

The closure has forced nearly all local bus services onto diversion routes, impacting Sunday travel for residents and visitors. The Broadway Shopping Centre, a key local hub which historically attracts between 8 and 9 million annual visitors, is within the affected area.

The Metropolitan Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. They ask the public to call 101, quoting the reference CAD 630/04Jan.
