
A 45-year-old man has been charged with possession of a suspected firearm after police conducted a raid in Belfast. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that an item resembling an antique weapon was seized during the operation.
The suspect, identified as James from the north of the city, appeared before Belfast Magistrates' Court on Saturday. He faces charges related to the alleged possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances.
According to the PSNI, officers acted on intelligence when they carried out the search. A spokesperson stated: "We recovered an item suspected to be a firearm, which will now undergo forensic examination."
The police emphasised their ongoing commitment to removing illegal weapons from the streets. "This seizure demonstrates our continued efforts to combat firearm-related crime in Belfast," the spokesperson added.
The case has been adjourned, with the defendant remanded in custody pending further investigation. Authorities have not disclosed whether the item recovered was functional or if any ammunition was found.
