A baby was born in a serious condition after a pregnant woman was struck by an e-bike in a hit-and-run incident in Poole. The mother, in her thirties, was taken to hospital on Monday after the collision on Herbert Avenue, near the junction with Manor Avenue.
Dorset Police said the woman did not sustain serious injuries, but her baby was delivered and remains in a serious condition. The e-bike rider failed to stop at the scene, and no arrests have been made so far.
Police Constable Dan Blagden, from the roads policing team, appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage. He said: “We are carrying out a full investigation into the circumstances of this collision, and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please contact us.”
PC Blagden also appealed to the rider and a pillion passenger who was on the e-bike at the time to come forward. Officers have asked anyone with information to contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
E-bikes in the UK must have their electric assistance cut off at 15.5mph. Previously, surgeons have warned of a rise in e-bike accidents causing serious injuries.
