Three British Airways cabin crew members were taken to hospital after unknowingly eating cannabis-laced gummies given to them by a passenger. The sweets, containing up to 300mg of THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis, caused what were described as 'out-of-body experiences'.
The incident occurred after the flight from London Heathrow landed in Los Angeles last week. The entire crew was stood down, and the affected employees were flown back to the UK on a separate service as passengers days later. The airline has launched a search for the passenger who handed out the marijuana-infused treats.
A source told The Sun that it is not unusual for grateful passengers to thank crew with sweets, but in this case, the gummies were consumed on the crew bus after touchdown. 'Almost immediately BA staff realised something was wrong,' the source said. 'By the time the group had reached the crew hotel, three staff members who had numerous sweets began suffering out-of-body experiences. They felt totally out of control and became panicked and scared.'
There is no suggestion that the crew members knew what they were ingesting, and they will not face disciplinary action. A British Airways spokesman told the Evening Standard: 'A small number of our crew reported feeling unwell at their hotel and have since recovered. We sent a replacement crew to operate the return flight and there was no impact on our customers.'
