A 26-year-old man has been arrested after a Celtic supporter was attacked in Liverpool following Rangers' Old Firm victory at the weekend.
The man, from Netherton, has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder after footage appeared online showing a man in a Rangers scarf getting into a confrontation with a group of Celtic fans outside Fitzgerald's Irish Bar in the city centre.
Incident after Old Firm match
The incident occurred after Rangers came out 3-0 victors over Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup quarter final on Sunday, September 13.
The male is currently in police custody for questioning. It is not known if any injuries were suffered in the altercation.
Footage shows confrontation
The video captures a man in Rangers memorabilia facing off against the group of supporters before throwing a punch towards a man in a white Celtic shirt.
A male wearing a green tracksuit jacket then appears to try to push the Rangers fan from behind but falls over in the attempt. After managing to escape, the suspected Rangers fan runs away alongside a man dressed in black as around eight people give chase from the direction of the bar.
The chaotic scenes continue as a man in a green jacket appears to swing a punch at the male in black, but is then seen falling to the ground as his intended target manages to flee. In another clip, the supposed Rangers supporter is seen curled up on the street as a man wearing a Celtic strip repeatedly punches him.
Police appeal for information
Merseyside Police have appealed for information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident. The force said: "It was reported that footage posted on social media showed a man punching a Celtic supporter before being attacked and chased by a group of fellow supporters."
"A 26-year-old man from Netherton has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. He is in police custody for questioning."
