A US Army veteran suspected of killing four people at a bar in Montana has been arrested after a week-long manhunt. Michael Brown, 45, was taken into custody alive on Friday afternoon, according to Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton.
Brown is accused of opening fire at the Owl Bar in Anaconda on the morning of August 1, killing a bartender and three patrons. The victims have been identified as Daniel Edwin Baillie, 59; Nancy Lauretta Kelley, 64; David Allen Leach, 70; and Tony Wayne Palm, 74.
After the shooting, Brown abandoned a stolen pickup near Garrity Mountain and fled into the Anaconda Range foothills. Authorities considered him armed and dangerous during the search, which involved dozens of law enforcement agencies, aerial support and tracking dogs.
Montana Governor Greg Gianforte announced the arrest on X, praising the 'incredible response from law enforcement officers across Montana.' Attorney General Austin Knudsen also commended the 'unrelenting law enforcement effort' and said the families of the victims remain in his prayers.
Brown is believed to have lived next door to the bar and was a regular there, appearing to know the victims. His niece, Clare Boyle, previously stated that he has PTSD from his Army service and other mental illnesses, expressing deep remorse for the families affected.
