A major emergency response, including armed police and paramedics, was deployed to Leazes Park in Newcastle on Friday evening. The incident, which began shortly after 9pm, saw multiple officers carrying guns enter the popular city centre park.
An eyewitness reported seeing more than half a dozen officers entering the park before ambulance crews arrived. The North East Ambulance Service confirmed they dispatched two ambulance crews and a team from their Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene.
One patient was taken to hospital for treatment following the incident. The nature of the emergency has not yet been disclosed by authorities.
