Armed police were seen in Dingle on Saturday evening after a fight broke out in the street and weapons were reported. Shortly before 5pm today, Saturday, September 19, armed officers were called to Isaac Street, Dingle, to reports of males fighting in the street.
It was reported that weapons had been seen. The windscreen of a Nissan car was damaged during the incident, with officers later arresting a man on suspicion of affray. Merseyside Police initially told the ECHO how its officers had been called to reports of "two groups of youths" having a "skirmish", but that no arrests had been made.
Scene stood down and arrest made
The force incident manager explained the scene was being stood down at around 6.20pm and stated no weapons were recovered or firearms discharged. The force has now issued an update, stating a man has been held.
Photographs shared with the ECHO show a cordon in place around the damaged Nissan and armed police on Park Road, Isaac Street and Jacob Street.
Section 60 order introduced
A section 60 order has now been introduced following the "suspected disorder" in Dingle. The order came into place at 7.30pm today and will until 7.29pm tomorrow, Sunday September 20.
It allows officers to stop males aged 14-25 years old and search them if they are believed to be involved in crime. The area is bounded by Admiral Street; Northumberland Street; Grafton Street; Garswood Street; Cockburn Street; South Hill Street; Peel Street; Belvidere Street; and Devonshire Road West.
Police appeal for witnesses
Inspector Simon Newman said: “As we continue to investigate this incident, the increased police powers and presence in the area aims to ensure that the community is kept safe.
“To bring any weapons onto the streets is reckless and will not be tolerated. I would urge anyone who witnessed this incident or captured anything on CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices to come forward.”
