Incident in Walkergate prompts armed police response
Three people have been arrested after armed police were called to reports of a man with a firearm in a Newcastle street in the early hours of Monday. Emergency services were dispatched to Tumulus Avenue in Walkergate at around 4:15am following a report of a disturbance.
A 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with injuries consistent with an assault. Three males, aged 16, 18, and 48, were arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in police custody.
Toy gun recovered at scene
Officers conducted extensive searches of the area and recovered a toy gun at the scene. No actual firearm was found. Northumbria Police confirmed that enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
A police spokesperson said: "At about 4:15am today (Monday), we received a report of a disturbance in Newcastle. It was reported that a man was in possession of a firearm outside of an address in the Tumulus Avenue area of Walkergate."
Hospitalisation and arrests
The spokesperson added: "Emergency services attended and located a 16-year-old boy with injuries consistent with having been assaulted. He was taken to hospital for treatment." The two men, aged 18 and 48, and the 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of assault. They remain in police custody as investigations continue.
