Three people were stabbed outside Amsterdam Central Station on Saturday evening, with a suspect also injured and arrested following the incident. Emergency services responded to De Ruijterkade, at the rear of the major railway station, at around 7.30pm local time on Saturday, August 29.
Victims and suspect taken to hospital
Three stabbing victims were injured and taken to hospital, according to Dutch news agency ANP. Their conditions are currently unknown. A suspect was also injured during the incident and taken to hospital, where they were arrested, ANP reported.
The stabbing happened at the station exit on the IJ side of Amsterdam Central. Dutch public broadcaster NOS also reported that four people were taken to hospital, comprising three stabbing victims and the suspect.
Major emergency response launched
A major emergency response was launched following reports of the violence, with four ambulances, a Mobile Medical Team and a specialist fire service team dispatched to the scene, according to Dutch outlet 112 Nieuws Nederland. Images from the scene published by Dutch newspaper AD showed firefighters wearing bulletproof vests as emergency crews responded.
A police spokesperson told 112 Nieuws Nederland that a fight had preceded the incident. De Ruijterkade was closed off while emergency services carried out an investigation into what happened.
Investigation ongoing
Police have also appealed for anyone who saw or heard anything connected to the incident to come forward. AD reported that part of the station had been cordoned off, with forensic investigators and detectives working to establish the circumstances surrounding the violence.
No information has yet been released about the severity of the injuries, according to 112 Nieuws Nederland. The investigation remains ongoing.
