Video footage has captured the moment drones were intercepted by air defence systems near Dubai International Airport, causing debris to rain from the sky. Witnesses near the airport reported hearing a thunderous explosion overhead.
Initial reports suggested a blast at the airport, but authorities later clarified that the incident involved falling debris following a successful interception. Aircraft heading for the world's busiest international airport were seen circling at a distance shortly before the strike.
Officials confirmed the situation was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported. A spokesperson for the Dubai Media Office stated: “Dubai authorities have confirmed that a minor incident resulting from the fall of debris after an interception has been successfully contained. No injuries have been reported. Authorities have also denied reports circulating on social media regarding any incidents at Dubai International Airport.”
Emirates airline temporarily suspended all flights from the airport around the time of the strike, warning passengers not to travel. In a post on X, the airline said: “Please do not go to the airport. Emirates will share updates when available.” Flights resumed about an hour later, with Emirates adding: “The safety of our passengers and crew is our highest priority and will not be compromised.”
