An abandoned two-storey mansion in Largs, Ayrshire, was completely destroyed by a fire that broke out on the evening of Tuesday, June 30. Emergency services were called to the blaze on Irvine Road (A78) at approximately 6:30 PM.
Fire Crews Battle Blaze for Hours
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service mobilised four appliances to the scene. Crews worked for nearly four hours to bring the inferno under control, finally extinguishing the fire at 10:38 PM. Smoke was seen billowing above the town as firefighters fought the flames, which erupted through the roof of the derelict building.
A video shared on social media showed flames shooting through the roof and thick white smoke rising into the evening sky, with fire hoses spraying water to combat the fire.
No Injuries Reported, Cause Unknown
No casualties were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson stated: “We were alerted at 6.30pm on Tuesday, 30 June, to reports of a fire on Irvine Road, Largs. Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the area, and crews worked to extinguish a fire affecting a two-storey derelict building. There were no casualties, and the crew left at 10.38pm after ensuring it was safe.”
Traffic Disruption on A78
Motorists on the adjacent A78 were forced to take lengthy diversions for several hours while the fire was brought under control. Police Scotland also attended the scene. A police spokesperson said: “Around 6.45pm on Tuesday, 30 June, we received a report of a fire at a disused building near Trigoni Court in Largs. Emergency services attended and the fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. No one was injured. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
