A66 crash: Two police officers killed in wrong-way crash named

The two police officers killed in a crash involving a Volkswagen Passat and a police vehicle on the A66 have been named as PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough.

The officers died in the early hours of Saturday after the Volkswagen, which was travelling the wrong way along the A66 near Middlesbrough, collided with a police vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

Cleveland Police statement

Cleveland Police Chief Constable Victoria Fuller named the two police officers who died at the scene and said their loss is being felt "across communities, by our police family and by our partner agencies".

"These were brave officers protecting our communities and serving our residents who didn't return home to their families at the end of their shift," she said.
