Cleveland Police have named the two officers who died in the fatal crash on the A66 near Middlesbrough in the early hours of Saturday as PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough.

Seven people died in the incident

The two serving police officers were in a marked vehicle, and five members of the public travelling in a Passat were pronounced dead at the scene. The crash involved a wrong-way collision.

Cleveland Police's Chief Constable Victoria Fuller said: "This is an incredibly sad day for Cleveland. The loss has been felt across our communities, by our police family and by our partner agencies."
