A 13-year-old boy has died and a 19-year-old teenager remains in critical condition after a house fire in Blackpool, which police believe was started by an e-bike. The incident occurred on Redcar Road at around 9:37am on June 30, leading to a major emergency response.
Victim Identified as Coby Keogh
Blackpool Police confirmed that the young victim, Coby Keogh, died from his injuries on Sunday, July 5. His family is being supported by specially trained officers. The other teenager, Joey Gregory, was rushed to a burns unit at Wythenshawe Hospital in south Manchester and remains in a serious condition.
Cause of Fire: E-Bike
Authorities have stated that the fire was likely caused by an e-bike. A police spokesperson said: "At this time, we believe the fire was started by an e-bike." Three other individuals in the house sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. There is no third-party involvement suspected, and a joint investigation between police and the fire and rescue service is ongoing.
Family's Plea and Community Support
Joey's mother, Sally, shared an emotional update on social media: "You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice. This boy is something else. The worst week of our lives is nearly done and we continue to hope and pray. That's all we can do. Please keep praying, look at my beautiful boy, he has to come home." A fundraiser has been established to support the family.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact them on 101 quoting log 0451 of June 30. A file will be prepared for HM Coroner.
