Hampshire Police have arrested 12 people for offences including assaulting a police officer after demonstrators gathered to protest migrant arrivals on Sunday.
Protesters descended on a marina in Gosport following reports of a small boat crossing. Around 350 people left Haslar Road at around 2am on Monday after a group of migrants were brought ashore by coastguard, lifeboat and border security staff, Hampshire Police said.
Public Order Powers Imposed
Conditions were put into place under the Public Order Act as well as powers prohibiting the wearing of face coverings. A Section 14 dispersal order was imposed on the whole town to maintain order.
Mostly Peaceful Atmosphere
The atmosphere was mostly peaceful as demonstrators had assembled near Haslar Marina, though there were reports of flares being set off and some scuffles with police.
