The Daily Record has compiled a list of the most serious offenders sentenced in Scottish courts this week, including a gangster who carried out a razor attack in prison, an RAF serviceman who terrorised two women over 17 years, a drink-driver who killed a teenager, and a man who fatally punched a restaurant owner over an unpaid bill.
Robert Warnock: Prison Razor Attack
Robert Warnock, 30, was sentenced after chasing Jason Arthur through the Allanton Hall wing of HMP Shotts on November 29, 2021, and striking him three times on the neck with a weapon described as a razor blade. The High Court in Edinburgh viewed two-minute CCTV footage showing prison guards restraining Warnock after the assault, while Arthur attempted to defend himself with a dinner tray. Later that day, Arthur was taken to hospital in Wishaw, where medics found one laceration to his neck had come close to his carotid artery, a major blood vessel supplying oxygen-rich blood to the brain. Lord Young presided over the case.
Kenny Ralph Dalgleish: 17-Year Abuse Campaign
Kenny Ralph Dalgleish, 38, an RAF serviceman, was jailed for 11 years after being found guilty of 11 charges at the High Court in Dundee on June 5. The court heard he subjected two women to a sustained campaign of abuse, including repeated strangulation, coercive control, and financial manipulation. He restricted one woman's food intake, prevented her from sleeping by hitting and shaking her, and controlled how long she could leave the house. Police and prosecutors described his crimes as horrific.
Kyle Patrick: Drink-Driver Kills Teenager
Kyle Patrick, 23, was caged after causing the death of 19-year-old Erin Slane on September 1, 2024, in Perthshire. Patrick drove at grossly excessive speeds while drunk; Erin messaged friends during the journey saying, “I may not survive tonight. I’m scared. Kyle is steaming.” He lost control, crossed onto the opposite carriageway, went down an embankment, hit a fence, and rolled over several times in a field. Erin died at the scene, and another passenger was seriously injured. Patrick pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury.
Robert Evans Jr: One-Punch Killing in Canada
Robert Evans Jr, 25, extradited from Scotland to Canada, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Owen Sound, Ontario, on June 5. He killed 44-year-old Sharif Rahman with a single punch following a dispute over an unpaid bill in August 2023. Rahman hit his head on the pavement and died in hospital a week later. Evans Jr was sentenced to three-and-a-half years; with time served, he will spend seven more months in custody before deportation to the UK. His father, Robert Evans Sr, and uncle, Barry Evans, also extradited from Scotland, admitted being accessories and were sentenced to time served, then deported.
