Emergency services responded to a major blaze in Old Colwyn, Wales, on Monday afternoon after reports of an explosion left two homes severely damaged. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 BST on the Peulwys estate.

Local residents reported hearing police and fire sirens as emergency services rushed to the scene. Councillor Cheryl Carlisle confirmed there had been an explosion and fire at the location. The North Wales Fire and Rescue Service received the call at 12:41 BST and dispatched five fire appliances and an aerial ladder platform (ALP) to Peulwys Lane.
Images from the scene show extensive damage to two neighbouring properties. A spokesperson for the fire service stated: "All occupants from both properties have been accounted for. We continue to advise people to stay away from the area while the incident remains ongoing."
Impact on Families
No fatalities or injuries have been reported, but the affected families have lost everything. One resident noted that the people involved only had "the clothes on their back." The local community quickly mobilised to offer support, with a collection for the families started at the community centre on the estate.
Councillor Carlisle said: "I understand the fire started in one house and spread to another. It is very good to hear that no one has been killed or injured. The community of Old Colwyn will now rally round and help the families affected, with clothing and support."
