Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio and three former youth team players are set to stand trial over allegations of filming and distributing explicit videos involving two women, one of whom was a minor. The decision was announced by Spanish judicial authorities on Thursday.
According to court documents, three of the defendants face charges of distributing child pornography and two privacy offences, with bail set at €20,000 each. Asencio is accused of two privacy offences, with bail set at €15,000. The alleged incident occurred on 15 June 2023 in a private area of a beach club in Gran Canaria.
Prosecutors are seeking a two-and-a-half-year sentence for Asencio and four years and seven months for the other three defendants, identified in media reports as Andrés García, Ferran Ruiz and Juan Rodríguez. One alleged victim has accused all four, while the other has excluded Asencio from her complaint.
In September 2023, three unnamed Real Madrid reserve players were arrested and later released after their mobile phone data was seized. Asencio has denied any wrongdoing, stating he “never took part in any behaviour that has threatened any woman’s sexual freedom” and only “briefly saw the content”. He stressed the importance of the presumption of innocence.
Police said the case began after a complaint from the mother of a 16-year-old girl regarding an alleged recording of sexual relations. The girl maintained the relations were consensual but said the recording was made without her consent. Real Madrid confirmed at the time that four youth players were questioned over an alleged release of a private video via WhatsApp.
