On a stretch of Liverpool Road in Huyton, a tree has become a shrine to four young men killed in a crash in the early hours of Friday. The car they were travelling in came off the road and hit a lamp post. The victims are Jack Diggle, 23, Benjamin Dooley, 23, Andrew Roberts, 24, and Craig Shackleton-Brady, 26.
Flowers, pictures and tributes surround the tree. Mourners have gathered to pay respects. Octavia Tyrrell, formerly in a long-term relationship with Benjamin Dooley, said: "He was so amazing, the most loving, caring person you could ever meet in your life." She added they were meant to be together and that he loved darts and football. "He was a full on Red but he had appreciation for the Blues because his dad was a Blue."
Family tributes
Benjamin's mother Kerry described him as "her world, her best friend," adding: "It was me and you always. My life is ripped apart and I don't know how I will do life without you." His sister Demi said he was the one who always gave her advice and looked out for her.
Andrew Roberts' family said "life can change in an instant" and the loss is a reminder of how precious every moment is. His mother Linda spoke of her "beautiful blue-eyed boy" and said her life will never be the same again.
Craig Shackleton-Brady's family described him as a "truly well-mannered family man" whose children were the centre of his world. Jack Diggle's family called him "kind, quiet, thoughtful and loving" and a proud Everton fan. His mother recalled having a meal with him on Thursday, not knowing it would be the last time.
Community in shock
People from all walks of life have visited the tree, bringing flowers, a bottle of Madri beer, and a Liverpool FC crest. The community is in shock but rallying around the families. The four young men were greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
