Crime round-up: gang war, care worker, cocaine bust, gift card scam

A car was set alight outside a garage linked to the Daniel crime clan in Kirkintilloch, marking the second attack on the premises in a week. Emergency services were called to Kelvinside Motor Company on Milton Road shortly before 11pm on Saturday, August 22, after the vehicle was firebombed. No one was injured, and police are treating the fire as wilful.

Gang war escalates with second attack

The garage at Kirkintilloch Industrial Estate, where Daniels kingpin Francis 'Fraggle' Green is listed as a former director, had already been targeted on Tuesday when a group of thugs allegedly turned up wielding machetes. A burnt-out hatchback was seen outside the garage on Sunday morning. The incidents are part of a new wave of chaos linked to Scotland's reignited gang war.

Care worker sacked after alleged incident

A care worker has been sacked after allegedly being caught having sex during an overnight shift at a vulnerable client's home in Cambuslang. The Sunday Mail understands the employee was spotted through a window at the client's home last month. The other person involved is not believed to have been an employee. Following the complaint to care provider Keane Premier Support Services, the carer was suspended and then dismissed.

Cocaine trafficker jailed after Encrochat bust

Stuart George, who used the Encrochat handle "Whiteradio," was jailed for his part in a cocaine trafficking operation that began during the first covid lockdown in 2020. The then 40-year-old was arrested during a raid on a drugs factory in Duntocher, West Dunbartonshire. He admitted involvement in serious and organised crime at the High Court in Glasgow in April 2023 and was sentenced to more than five years in prison.

Gift card draining scam warning

Organised crime gangs are secretly rigging gift cards in a scam known as "gift card draining," which can drain thousands of pounds from shoppers. The UK gift card and voucher market is worth around £8 billion a year, and Police Scotland has warned that prepaid cards are being tampered with in this sophisticated online fraud. Shoppers are urged to check cards carefully and report anything suspicious to store staff.

Jamie Daniel's criminal rise

Jamie Daniel, described as the head of Scotland's richest crime family, rose from humble beginnings in Possilpark, Glasgow. He has been compared to Harold Shand, the fictional London crime boss in The Long Good Friday. In his early days, Daniel was said to be involved in shoplifting, loan-sharking, stealing car wheels, and melting down stolen aluminium beer barrels. In 1983, at age 25, he was jailed for four years in England for heroin smuggling. He reportedly went on to build an international criminal empire involving stolen cars, firearms, and major drug smuggling, forging links with gangs in London, Manchester, and Liverpool.
