McCoist devastated by Rangers' £22m Chermiti injury disaster

Ally McCoist has described Youssef Chermiti's situation at Rangers as 'an absolute disaster' – so much so that he says he doesn't even want to talk about it.

Chermiti had attracted significant interest this summer, with Rangers rejecting a bid in the region of £22m from Galatasaray. However, the following day the striker suffered a serious ACL injury against Hibs.

Injury ends summer transfer hopes

The injury ended any chance the club had of banking a fee for the striker this summer. While Rangers have been reluctant to publicly estimate a return timeline, the injury is of a type known to end seasons even at this early stage.

McCoist, an Ibrox hero, believes the club has missed out on a huge fee that would have significantly bolstered McInnes' budget for the remainder of the window.

McCoist: 'It just dismays me'

He said he is gutted for the 22-year-old and for the club, who have had to think on their feet and reassess.

Speaking to talkSPORT, McCoist said: "Youssef Chermiti’s injury is a disaster. An absolute disaster. I think the rumours were that they’d been offered £23-24m for him.

"I don’t even want to talk about it, and it just dismays me. It's a massive blow for the boy, and I'm gutted for him, of course.

"But in terms of the club itself, there’s no other word for it than a disaster. That’s all you can say."
