The victim, a cosplayer known only as 'Iris', was ambushed on Dixon Street near the Market City shopping complex at approximately 4:15 PM on Saturday. She was dressed in an elaborate costume, a common sight in the area popular with anime enthusiasts.
Shocking CCTV and mobile phone footage captures the chilling moment a lone assailant, described as a Caucasian male of solid build, approaches the woman from behind and delivers a powerful, unprovoked punch to the side of her head. The force of the blow sends her stumbling forward as the attacker casually walks away.
"I heard something from behind and then I was hit," the victim recounted to Daily Mail Australia. "I was in so much shock. I turned around and saw this man walking away very fast."
