Police have confirmed they are investigating an allegation of racist abuse during Swansea City's win over Millwall on Tuesday night.

The match at The Den was paused midway through the second half after claims Swansea's Eom Jisung, who was warming up on the touchline at the time, had been targeted.

Seven-minute delay as officials discuss incident

The game was paused as Edward Duckworth held lengthy discussions with both sets of coaches, with the delay lasting around seven minutes.

An announcement was also made on the stadium speakers at The Den confirming there had been an allegation of racism and that police were working to identify any offenders using CCTV.

Metropolitan Police reviewing incident

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police confirmed they are now reviewing the incident.

"Officers swiftly engaged with witnesses to gather statements," a spokesperson said. "No arrests have been made and enquiries remain ongoing."

Clubs and manager respond

Swansea City and Millwall both released statements of their own in the wake of the incident, while Vitor Matos reiterated his support for Eom, adding he was pleased with the way the episode was handled by officials and the club.

"The referee followed the protocol for these sort of situations, they did the right thing. Millwall also did the right thing to get the protocol moving on," said Matos.

"We all know there is no space for this. This kind of situation should not happen."

"When they do happen we are here to stand with the player, in this case it is our player."

"He is a smart kid, he is not happy with the situation but he knows we will stay with him and follow the situation as long as we can," he added.

"Millwall did the right thing by announcing there is no place for this sort of thing."

"I'm happy with how it was handled, but really sad that it happened. Now it is about evaluating the situation and we'll see what happens."
