A man has been sentenced to six months in prison for a hate-motivated assault on two Muslim women in Enfield, north London. Alex Chivers, 36, struck one of the victims with an open packet of bacon and shouted 'You deserve this' during the attack on 8 June.
Chivers also shouted 'Isil scum' at one of the women, referring to the Islamic State group. The incident occurred at about 4.40pm and was filmed by an associate of Chivers, who remains at large.
Chivers, of Waltham Cross, pleaded guilty to one count of racially or religiously aggravated common assault and one count of causing racially or religiously aggravated alarm or distress. He was sentenced at Highbury Corner magistrates court on 29 June.
Detective Constable James Payne, from Enfield community safety unit, described the attack as 'truly shocking' and urged witnesses or anyone with information to contact police. Chivers was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge and complete a 12-month supervision order after his release.
