Shoplifter Jailed for Defying Court Ban to Steal from Tesco

A shoplifter who defied a court ban to steal from his local Tesco has been jailed. Last year, Dominic Miller, of Glossop, was banned from entering every Tesco and B&M Bargains in Derbyshire after being slapped with a three-year criminal behaviour order at Tameside magistrates' court. But despite the restrictions, he still went on to shoplift from Tesco, as well as Heron Foods and Asda.

Police say that in May and June this year, he stole a wide range of household goods from the three stores, including washing products, mini M&M's, a burger, chicken dippers, biscuits, and meat. He was arrested and charged with shoplifting, cannabis possession, and breaching the terms of the criminal behaviour order.

Miller, 40, of Chapel Street, pleaded guilty to all offences and was jailed for 24 weeks at Southern Derbyshire magistrates’ court. Sgt Patrick Haley, of the Buxton and Glossop Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "Shop theft leaves businesses out of pocket, which they can ill afford. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the team, we managed to bring Miller to justice, and this should serve as a warning to other thieves operating in Glossop that this type of offence will not be tolerated and will likely land you with a prison sentence."
