A man in the UK has shared his devastating experience of discovering his long-term girlfriend had been unfaithful throughout their eight-year relationship, prompting him to secretly take a paternity test on their two children. The test confirmed he is the biological father, but the revelation has left him torn between leaving and staying.
The man, who posted anonymously on Reddit, said he found out about the cheating by snooping and confronted his girlfriend. She claimed she 'doesn't remember anything', a response he described as 'one of the dumbest things' he had ever heard. Despite her professing love and a desire to stay together, he struggles to understand why she did not end the relationship if she wanted to see other people.
He noted that he has 'nothing to offer her' financially and that she spends most of her time with him, making the betrayal even more blindsiding. He even suggested an open relationship, but she refused, saying she does not want him to be with anyone else.
Commenters on the post urged him to leave the 'toxic' relationship, warning that staying for the children would be a mistake. One wrote, 'A toxic household is worse than two normal households.' Others shared similar experiences, describing partners as narcissists who use a stable relationship as a fallback while seeking excitement elsewhere.
