A delivery driver who strangled a woman to death in the back of his work van has been found guilty of murder. Tanveer Singh, 32, from West Bromwich, 'brutally' murdered Shara Millar, 41, after picking her up following a heavy drinking session at the pub. Singh, who had also been taking cocaine, was convicted of murder at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday and is facing life in prison.
Details of the crime
He strangled his victim to death in his white sprinter van before dumping her body on the pavement in Smethwick, West Midlands, in the early hours of August 11 last year. He then poured AdBlue, a chemical used in diesel cars, over her body in an attempt to remove forensic evidence. The murderer also stole money from her purse before fleeing.
Ms Millar, a sex worker, was found by a member of the public wearing just her bra and with serious head injuries at 6.10am. Police said 'it was clear nothing could be done to save her'. Singh had paid for sexual acts more than 100 times with various women.
Court proceedings
He was convicted of murder on Friday following a two-week trial and will be sentenced on May 27. DI Joe Davenport said: 'Shara was brutally killed by a dangerous predator. Singh was drinking in a pub earlier in the night and visited Soho Road to look for sex workers. He then picked Shara up in his van and she was fatally attacked. He attempted to get rid of any trace of his presence by pouring a liquid over Shara's body to destroy any forensic evidence. My thoughts are with Shara's loved ones, and I thank them for the support during this investigation and trial.'
