A person was found dead on railway tracks between Wigan and Preston. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 11.53pm on Wednesday, September 30.
Sadly, a body was discovered on the tracks. The British Transport Police have not released any further information about the person at this stage.
Train services disrupted
Trains faced cancellations and delays as emergency services responded. Investigations were carried out before services returned to normal at around 1.22am this morning, according to LancsLive.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the person's death.
Police statement
In a statement, a spokesman for British Transport Police said: “We were called to the railway line in Wigan at 11.27pm on September 30 to a report of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding their death.”
