Jeremy O Harris, the acclaimed American playwright behind the Tony-nominated sensation Slave Play, is currently in custody in Japan facing serious drug smuggling allegations. The 36-year-old was arrested last month after airport customs officials in Okinawa allegedly discovered a small quantity of MDMA in his personal luggage.
The incident occurred on 16 November at Naha Airport in Okinawa. According to statements from the Okinawa Regional Customs office, a search of Harris's tote bag revealed 0.78 grams of a crystalline substance that was later confirmed to contain MDMA, a controlled psychotropic. In 2018, Grammy-winning DJ David Morales was arrested at Fukuoka airport after officials allegedly found 0.3 grams of MDMA in his luggage.
