Peter Andre has opened up about his 'worst nightmare' as a parent following the suspected drug-related death of 11-year-old Olivia Curley. The singer and father of five shared his fears in his weekly column for OK! magazine, describing the tragedy as 'devastating' for any parent.
Olivia Curley died on 17 November after becoming unwell at home. Police Scotland are investigating the death as unexplained, with suspicions that drugs may have been involved. Andre wrote: 'As a parent, a big fear is that your children, especially at a young age, may be introduced to drugs. So the heartbreaking case of 11-year-old Olivia Curley, who died in what is a suspected “drugs tragedy”, is every parent’s worst nightmare.'
Andre, who has five children with his wife Emily and ex-wife Katie Price, added that the thought of children being peer-pressured into taking drugs is terrifying. 'Kids are impressionable. They could be offered things and be peer-pressured into taking them. It’s devastating as a parent to even hear the possibility of it. And in this case, someone’s life was lost – and someone so heartbreakingly young.'
The singer previously described his older children, Junior and Princess, as 'easy teenagers' but admitted he worries about them forming relationships. He told BANG Showbiz: 'I found them easy teenagers, but the problem is – it's not with those two – but the problem for parents, what I find is when they have a partner, you either like the partner or you push them away.'
