South Wales Police has issued an appeal for information after a man was seriously injured in an incident outside a hotel and restaurant in Pontyclun during the early hours of Sunday.
Emergency services were called to Coedcae Lane, near the Haveli Hotel, at around 1am following reports of an assault. The victim was taken to hospital, where he remains. Police have confirmed no arrests have been made so far.
Police cordon and investigation
The area was cordoned off on Sunday morning, with a police car in attendance and a blue tarpaulin covering what appeared to be something on the pavement, held down by traffic cones. The incident is not currently believed to have involved a knife.
South Wales Police said: "We are appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident, anyone who was present and has mobile phone footage and/or dashcam footage, anyone who has any information about this incident, and anyone with CCTV covering this area, to get in touch with us quoting reference 2600240608."
Local MP urges no speculation
Pontypridd Labour MP Alex-Davies Jones said she was aware of the "serious incident" and was in contact with the force. She urged the public not to speculate on social media, warning that misinformation could cause unnecessary distress and hinder the investigation.
A Haveli spokesman declined to comment, noting the incident did not take place on its premises.
One witness who passed the scene on Sunday morning described seeing a police car and officers guarding a blue tarpaulin on the pavement, which appeared to be covering something.
