A British tourist was allegedly shot in a road rage incident in Thailand after his motorcycle nearly collided with a cannabis dealer's bike. The suspect, Kitinan Pantarak, 40, then drove the injured man to hospital before fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred outside a hotel in Mae Hong Son province on Tuesday night. The British man, from Dundee, sustained a gunshot wound to his arm. Police later arrested Pantarak at his home and charged him with attempted murder.
Police Colonel Phasawin Kaewtai said the British tourist is safe and out of danger. However, officers are questioning him for overstaying his visa, which expired on August 22. The shooting happened on August 26, four days into his overstay.
According to police, the suspect told them he had known the British man for three weeks after selling him cannabis. He claimed the tourist owed him £50 and that the Briton punched him before he fired the gun. Security footage showed the victim being taken to Pai Hospital by the gunman.
When police visited the hospital, the British man said the shooting was an accident and appeared reluctant to pursue the matter. The officer noted that the victim was walking around with an IV drip and even went outside to smoke a cigarette, showing no signs of concern.
