A 12-year-old girl has sustained life-changing injuries after being attacked by a dog in Brynmawr, south Wales. Police were called to a property at approximately 5.50pm on Monday.
The child was taken to hospital for treatment. Gwent Police confirmed that a 37-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, both from the local area, were arrested on suspicion of owning or possessing a dog bred for fighting and having a dog dangerously out of control.
The dog involved in the attack was seized by officers and is set to be destroyed. The force added that no other animals were involved in the incident.
Supt John Davies described the attack as a distressing incident and reassured the local community that there is no further risk to the public. He also advised that ongoing police activity in Brynmawr may be visible as part of the investigation.
