Stacy Mair, 35, was discovered dead at a secluded cottage in the village of Houston, Renfrewshire, at approximately 7.50am on Monday. Her husband Jim Mair, 43, was also found dead at the property, with his death currently being treated as unexplained.
Jim Mair had appeared before Paisley Sheriff Court on July 6, charged with assaulting his wife. The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service confirmed the case had been continued for further examination, and he was released on bail under the condition that he neither approach nor contact her. Three weeks later, emergency services discovered both bodies at a property on Corsliehill Road after the alarm was raised.
Post-Mortem Confirms Murder
Following a post-mortem examination, detectives confirmed on Tuesday evening that Stacy's death is being treated as murder. Jim's death remains unexplained, though Police Scotland has indicated there is no suggestion that any third party was involved.
Detectives from Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team are continuing to conduct extensive enquiries to determine the full circumstances surrounding both deaths, with a post-mortem examination on Jim expected to be carried out in due course.
Couple's Background
The couple, who wed in May 2019, jointly operated a tree surgery business. Company records indicate that Stacy had stepped down as a director earlier this year. The cottage and its surrounding area remains cordoned off as the investigation continues.

A Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Services spokesperson said: "Jim Mair appeared from custody at Paisley Sheriff Court on 6 July 2026 on a petition containing a single charge of assault. The case was continued for further examination and he was granted bail. When an accused person dies any proceedings against them come to an end. Mr Mair is dead, with a death report received, and as such any proceedings are at an end."
