A 32-year-old woman has died after her husband allegedly electrocuted her genitals during an argument over land in Uttar Pradesh, India. The woman, identified only as Nasreen, suffered multiple burns on her body, including on her private parts, according to a post-mortem report.
Post-mortem reveals electric shock injuries
The post-mortem report showed injuries at six places, including multiple burn injuries caused by electric shock. Electric shock injuries were also found on her private parts, said Anurag Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, Rampur. The incident occurred on the night of August 14.
Nasreen's husband, Israr, has been arrested and allegedly confessed to the killing. He reportedly told police he was furious because Nasreen refused to sell land she had inherited from her parents. The couple had been married for 13 years and had five children together: four daughters and one son.
Family claims threats and prior injuries
Nasreen's family said her husband had repeatedly threatened her with abuse and violence over the land dispute, local media reported. Family members added that Israr threatened to kill her if she did not comply with his demands.
Nasreen's sister, Haseen Jahan, said Nasreen had suffered injuries before the alleged electrocution but had hidden them from her family. Jahan stated: "She came home perfectly fine, but there were injuries on her face." Jahan added that Nasreen had not disclosed what had happened during the previous incident.
Complaint against in-laws
A complaint has been registered by Nasreen's uncle to start criminal proceedings against Israr, his father Hanif, sisters Babbo and Rafat, and brothers-in-law Istekar and Noor Alam. The family member accused Nasreen's in-laws of being involved in her death.
Israr is in police custody, while the other family members named in the complaint are at large after going on the run.
