A 39-year-old Tennessee woman is facing a potential 60-year prison sentence after prosecutors allege she attempted to murder her ex-boyfriend by deliberately running him over with her car multiple times.
Violent Attack After Relationship Ends
Tanieka Ray has been charged with attempted first-degree murder following the brutal incident in Memphis on Saturday. According to court documents, the attack occurred after the victim, Arthur Turner, tried to end their relationship.
Eyewitnesses told police that Ray used her black 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander to ram Turner repeatedly as he attempted to flee. The violent assault culminated in the victim falling into a neighbour's yard on the 500 block of Gilleas Road.
Neighbour Describes Harrowing Scene
Carlos Brantley, who discovered the critically injured Turner propped against a fence, called emergency services. "I was sitting in the house and heard some kind of ruckus," Brantley recounted. "By the time I get outside I see my neighbour, Arthur. He was laying in my driveway... like he couldn't get up."
Brantley rushed to provide aid, but described the alleged perpetrator continuing to drive up and down the street, shouting profanities and threats. "The perpetrator was going up and down the street, taunting us," he stated.
Medical examinations later revealed Turner sustained multiple catastrophic injuries, including breaks to his spine, hips, and ankle. Doctors confirmed his spine was broken, and he remains in critical condition.
Chaotic Aftermath and Arrest
Following the alleged attack, Ray reportedly sped off, eventually crashing into a utility pole several houses away. She then fled the scene on foot before being apprehended at a South Memphis residence.
Brantley later identified Ray in a six-person police lineup. The witness explained that Ray had been living with Turner but the pair had recently become estranged. "I guess she was trying to get back with him, and he just didn't want to have any dealings with her no more and she just went crazy," Brantley told local media.
Ray appeared in court on Monday morning and is being held on a $250,000 bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for January 12, 2026. If convicted, the 39-year-old faces a prison sentence ranging from 15 to 60 years.
