A domestic abuser choked his partner and then harassed her with messages, despite being told the relationship was over. Michael Hudson, 39, from Hawthorn Drive in Wishaw, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted the assault and related offences.
Assault in Motherwell
Hudson admitted assaulting his partner and her female neighbour at Netherwood Tower in Motherwell on December 29, 2024. The court heard that he grabbed the woman from behind and throttled her, leaving her struggling to breathe.
She fled to a neighbour's flat but later returned with her mother and sister. When they tried to get Hudson to leave, he grabbed the neighbour and caused a deep cut to her thumb.
Harassment and breach
The couple split but rekindled their relationship in mid-February last year. However, Hudson's behaviour became concerning. He bombarded her with messages, demanding to know where she was, and was eventually barred from the shop where she worked.
He also turned up at her home despite being told he wasn't welcome. Hudson admitted breaching a non-harassment order imposed on August 14 last year by contacting the woman less than three weeks later.
Prosecutor Calum Frame said Hudson got on a bus in Wishaw where the woman and a friend were travelling. He asked for belongings back but she did not engage. He sat next to her friend and repeatedly asked if they could 'sort things out', and asked 'Why is she not talking to me?'
When they got off the bus in Motherwell, Hudson followed them, again asking to sort things out. They entered their block of flats and he left them.
Sentence deferred
Defence lawyer Tom Watters said there have been concerns about Hudson's mental health and produced a medical report. Sheriff Linda Nicolson deferred sentence until next month and said she is considering another non-harassment order.
