A man whose penis was severed by his wife intends to use the £3,000 compensation he received following the attack to remarry her. Gilberto Nogueira de Oliveira endured the injury inflicted by his spouse Daiane dos Santos Farias in Atibaia, São Paulo state, Brazil.
Attack and Arrest
Farias insists she attacked her husband after discovering he had cheated on her on her birthday in 2023. She enticed Gilberto with the prospect of a romantic encounter, binding his hands with her underwear. She then grabbed a knife and severed his penis before flushing the appendage down the toilet.
Farias turned herself into the police that same night and confessed to the crime. She was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison but was granted parole and released from the Mogi das Cruzes Women's Penitentiary in November 2025, according to O Globo.
Compensation and Remarriage Plans
Gilberto was granted R$20,000 (just over £3,000) in damages from Hospital Santa Casa Misericórdia de Atibaia. The hospital was ordered to pay moral damages after images of his injuries taken during his treatment were leaked and widely circulated on social media. He had initially asked for R$100,000 (£15,140) in the lawsuit.
Gilberto stated: "This compensation is very low. I want more. I need the money because I also want to renovate my house." He revealed plans to use the compensation to fund a wedding and make a down payment on a penile prosthesis.
Reconciliation and Surgery
While in prison, the former partners exchanged letters in which Gilberto admitted regretting the sexual encounter with his niece, while forgiving Farias for the amputation. He admitted he had missed her and wished to rekindle their relationship. They are now gearing up to remarry once she is released from custody.
Gilberto is pursuing reconstructive surgery through Brazil's public healthcare system. According to urologist Cesar Camara, the procedure is still relatively rare in the country and carries a "high risk" in terms of successful results, though it is not deemed hazardous for the patient.
