A 20-year-old Sydney man has been charged with murder following an alleged stabbing of his father during a dispute over a computer. The incident occurred at a home in Moorebank, south-western Sydney, on Sunday evening.
Police were called to the property at 8.40pm after reports of a man suffering stab wounds. Paramedics treated 56-year-old Stephen Chapman at the scene, but he died en route to hospital. His son, Daniel Chapman, was arrested after running across the street to alert neighbours, who then called an ambulance.
Daniel Chapman did not appear at Parramatta bail court on Monday, where bail was formally refused. Court documents allege he murdered his father between 8.20pm and 8.30pm. The case is due to return to Campbelltown court on Wednesday.
Detective Chief Inspector Ken Hardie said the argument stemmed from the son's use of a computer. 'I believe the son uses it quite regularly and when he's asked to come to the dinner table he continued on the computer,' Hardie told reporters. The victim's wife was home at the time but was not injured.
