Brittany Fortinberry, the former Indiana teacher accused of coercing pupils into orgies while wearing Scream masks, has been divorced by her husband, Nicholas Fortinberry, according to TMZ.
The 33-year-old former maths teacher at Eminence High School in Martinsville, Indiana, is being held on remand awaiting trial on 47 charges, including accusations of sexually abusing several teenagers over multiple years.
Divorce and Custody Arrangements
The divorce was finalised on Monday, a year after Nicholas filed court papers to end the marriage. Under the terms of the divorce, Nicholas will have sole legal custody of their child while Fortinberry awaits trial, but she will regain custody if she is released, according to documents seen by TMZ.
The former couple have also sold the home they shared and split the proceeds, the outlet reported.
Allegations of Abuse
Prosecutors allege Fortinberry arranged group sex with a number of her students, some as young as 13, and forced them to wear a Ghostface mask from the Scream film. She would then force the boys to take turns having sex with her, officials claim.
In a police affidavit revealed in June last year, one alleged victim's mother detailed how Fortinberry showered her son with expensive football gifts and repeatedly messaged him on Snapchat until she told him to block her.
The boy began to cry and told his mother that Fortinberry had bombarded him with sexually explicit videos of herself and had provided him with drugs and what he suspected was alcohol. He said she "would always make him food and would buy him anything he wanted" including "vapes, weed, and THC carts (cartridges)".
Potential Sentence
The affidavit states: "Brittany had one condition for them to have the [group sex] with her and that was that they had to wear a Scream mask to f**k her."
If convicted, Fortinberry could spend the rest of her life behind bars while serving consecutive sentences.
