A man who attempted to murder his pregnant girlfriend in a 'horrifying' street attack in the West Midlands has been sentenced to 18 years in prison. Babur Karamat Raja, 41, repeatedly stabbed 40-year-old Natalie Queiroz in Sutton Coldfield town centre.
Prosecuting barrister Benjamin Aina QC informed the court that had Raja's knife penetrated just 2mm further into his victim's abdomen, it would have killed the unborn baby. The attack was described as brutal and unprovoked.
In a witness statement read by West Midlands Police outside Birmingham Crown Court, Ms Queiroz expressed her shock, stating she 'didn't expect' the stabbing. Raja was convicted of attempted murder and sentenced accordingly.
