Police update after man dies at Royal Welsh campsite

Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that three men arrested in connection with the death of Dewi Aeron Evans at a campsite near the Royal Welsh Show have been released on conditional bail while investigations continue.

Mr Evans, 25, died at Penmaenau Farm in Llanelwedd on Saturday, July 18, after what emergency services described as a "medical emergency". Police were called to the scene at around 10.30pm that evening, and despite paramedics' efforts, Mr Evans was pronounced dead.

Family tribute and police statement

On Monday, Mr Evans' family described him as "a beloved and dear son, brother and grandson". Specially trained officers are supporting the family.

Chief Superintendent Steve Davies said: "This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with the young man's family at this difficult time. I would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident, and the death is currently being treated as unexplained. There is no evidence of any ongoing risk to the wider public in connection with this sad incident."

Campsite response

Penmaenau Farm Camping, one of the largest campsites used by Royal Welsh Show visitors, expressed condolences and reassured visitors. In a statement, the campsite said: "It is with sadness that we confirm an individual sadly passed away yesterday following a medical emergency on site. The Penmaenau Family would like to extend our sincere condolences to the individual's family, friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. We would like to reassure all campers and visitors that this was a medical emergency. There was no attack, assault or violent incident connected to this tragic event. We are actively working with the Police regarding this incident."

The campsite remains open as normal for Royal Welsh 2026. Police enquiries into the circumstances surrounding Mr Evans' death are ongoing.
