Adam Johnson, 26, and Kylie Smith, 25, both from St Helens, have been charged in connection with the death of their one-year-old son, Maero Johnson, who died in August 2023.
Details of the incident
Shortly after midnight on August 23, 2023, emergency services were called after the toddler was rushed to hospital, where he died despite medical efforts. A Home Office post-mortem examination found that Maero died from ketonic hypoglycaemia and severe malnutrition.
Charges and court appearance
Both parents face charges of causing or allowing the death of a child, child neglect, and possession of a Class B controlled drug, cannabis. They are scheduled to appear before Liverpool Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 13.
