MP praises Virgin Money staff after Safe Space visit

Motherwell, Wishaw and Carluke MP Pamela Nash has praised the work of staff at Virgin Money in Motherwell after visiting the branch to learn how it operates as a Safe Space.

The Safe Space initiative is run by the UK Says No More campaign, which aims to raise awareness to end domestic abuse and sexual violence across the country.

The Hamilton Road branch is one of a number of banks and pharmacies throughout the UK to support the initiative by offering a Safe Space consultation room for people experiencing domestic abuse.

Private Support Room

The room provides a private, confidential area where anyone experiencing physical, emotional or financial abuse can access support, make calls to specialist charities and find safety away from their abuser.

Nash said: “A bank branch is perhaps not the first place you would think to turn to for support of this kind, but it’s clear this is a really valuable resource at Virgin Money in Motherwell and the staff are determined and ready to offer assistance when it’s needed.

“It was lovely to meet the team and hear more about, not just the Safe Space initiative, but Virgin Money’s work to support customers with dementia, and its Young Enterprise financial education programme that helps children learn about money.”

Branch Manager's Response

Claire Walker, Motherwell Branch Manager at Virgin Money, added: “It was a pleasure to welcome Pamela Nash MP to the branch and show her the important role we play in Motherwell.

“Having a local presence means customers can choose how they bank, while also giving us the opportunity to support the wider community.

“From day-to-day banking through to safe spaces and dementia clinics, our branches make a positive difference locally - it was fantastic for Pamela to see that impact first-hand.”
