A 24-year-old mother has been charged by police after her newborn baby boy was found dead and dumped in a rubbish bin in Auburn, in Sydney's south west.
The mother, who has not been named, was located by police at a nearby address and taken to hospital for assessment. Upon release from hospital, she was arrested and taken to Auburn Police Station, where she was charged with mother alone conceal birth by disposing body.
Body found in Harrow Road bin
Police received reports that the body of a baby had been located in a rubbish bin in Harrow Road, Auburn, on Monday 31 August at around 11.20am. Emergency services attended and located the body of a newborn boy.
Police established a crime scene, and detectives commenced an investigation into the incident under Strike Force Alenor.
Warrant executed after weeks of inquiries
Following weeks of extensive inquiries, investigators executed a crime scene warrant at a unit on Harrow Road on Thursday 17 September. A short time later, police spoke with a 24-year-old woman – believed to be the mother of the infant – at another address in Auburn before she was taken to hospital for assessment.
Upon release from hospital, the woman was arrested and taken to Auburn Police Station, where she was charged with mother alone conceal birth by disposing body.
Court date set
The 24-year-old was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court (John Maddison Tower) on Tuesday 27 October 2026.
A New South Wales Police spokesperson said: "A woman has been charged after the body of an infant was located in Sydney’s south west last month. About 11.20am on Monday 31 August 2026, emergency services were called to Harrow Road, Auburn, following reports the body of a baby had been located in a garbage bin."
